I recently bought a viscoelastic (memory foam) 2" topper for my bed. I sold bedding for many years, and will always believe that a quality innerspring with a 3lb density topper is the best way to achieve uninterrupted, restorative sleep. I didn't have a lot of money, so I purchased a very good department store topper at a good price. Unfortunately, a drawback to quality foam is the heat generated by the body. I was roasting. This mattress pad does a great job of keeping my body heat away from the foam with the waterproofing layer. I really don't care about the reviews that claim liquids get through. This pad is awesome at keeping me cool all night, and does not affect the ability of my topper to contour to my body and relieve pressure points. This should be a selling point in the description of this item.
