This is a great replacement for my small French press. I fill my cup with water first then add it to the electric kettle I got from Amazon.setting the water control so the water just simmers. While the water heats I take the time to set up this device. I have been pouring about an ounce into the reservoir to let the coffee get hydrated or bloom. Once the initial water has dripped through I wait a beat then add the rest of the water to the reservoir and wait a couple minutes until it's done. Total time for a regular size cup is around five minutes. I have not found a cup in my home that this would not work with. Pluses: Fast, easy clean up and no grit in the coffee. Minuses. I need to use a filter. I'm extremely happy with this coffee maker.
