I can't speak to swimming pool experience but this skimmer is fabulous for cleaning the surface of my quarter acre pond which is way rougher duty than any swimming pool. I bought it for the large size but the sturdy construction is great. I can pick up duck weed, assorted algae, leaves, etc. The mesh is a good size - passes water freely and retains most debris. I work from shore, from my canoe, or don my snorkel gear and dive in with it.
