The Polycarbonate is the key. This is not a flimsy flexible PVC chair mat that comes rolled up and is a pain to get to lay flat either. I started with a PVC chair mat and due to the deeper carpet that I have in my office you would put dents in it where the wheels sat which made it hard to roll move from that position. To solve that problem I purchased a second mat from Costco and laid that one on top of the other. That helped, but it would still flex enough that you felt you had to roll your chair uphill to move it after sitting for a minute. Finally the PFC mats both cracked and I started the look for something significantly stronger. I searched for Polycarbonate in particular due to it's incredible impact resistance and rigidity. I was really looking for one that was thicker than this one because I thought that with the relatively deep carpet I'd still get a bunch of flex from this, but the size was right, the price was right, and even if I had to put something else on top of it later, it was time to get another one. To my surprise, I won't be needing a second on to add strength to this one. I'm about 230lbs and with me on the chair there is very little flex, the chair rolls very well... not perfectly, but very well. There is no "denting" from sitting in one place for a while, there is nothing that I can say bad about this purchase. It was SO much easier to put into use than the cheap rolled up mats that take forever to lay flat! This was shipped flat, and the box even helped haul out the old broken pvc mats. Very happy with this purchase. If you are looking for something that can handle someone over 200lbs on deep carpet, I'd say you found one that will do. I took a couple videos of the mat with the wheels of my chair rolling over it while I was in the chair, one from the side, and one from above, but the review would only let me add one... sorry. The video will show you the strength difference. With my weight and the chair on the 5 rollers, it works out to over 50lbs per wheel and you see very little flex from the mat. Good Stuff!
