Old school cop show
Having watched the first four seasons I've just plowed through the first two episodes of season 5, pausing only because I need to sleep and go to work. Bosch is a modern police procedural that stays in touch with its roots in old time cop shows such as Dragnet and LA-style film noir. Det. Harry Bosch is the tough-as-nails hardboiled detective, willing to bend the rules without breaking them, and taking pride in his experience and expertise at solving crimes. He is also a jazz fan, which adds a serious does of noir to the show. The policemen here are portrayed as professionals who are nevertheless flawed humans, having to deal with bureaucracy, politics, and personal issues while legitimately doing what they can to protect their beloved city. More than any other TV cop, Bosch is the most worthy successor to Det. Joe Friday as he deals with LA's criminal element. Also, this is the only show that I never skip the intro to; the theme song is just too good not to listen to every time. Even the end credits music is great.
