From the 'hospital staff' perspective, what a great idea!
One of our patients had this on (the green, it was very cheery) and it was really nice! I wish I'd had one of these back in the day! By feature- Halter style top-- not constrictive and open, most people in labor don't want tight clothing and are warm--this was was open and comfortable for her, and it was easy to move aside when she was ready to hold the baby on her chest (easy access for the baby). Plus, the design style kept the 'girls' in place and no bra was the way to go. Belly openings-- we were doing intermittent monitoring for the most part, and even when the heart rate was acting up (well down actually) it was super easy to palpate her belly and place the monitors as needed. Also, before the cord was cut, the baby could get skin to skin on her abdomen. Back opening-- she didn't have to hike anything up or disrobe to have an epidural, there is easy access for that, without having to bare her entire backside. Way more comfortable than the ridiculous gowns we otherwise have, and much better looking for photos. Plus, no worries about splashing/making messes or worrying about flying vernix--it's disposable. Also, she was was able to move about to many positions (side lying to knees etc) without getting all tangled up. In other words, she didn't have to wear a yucky hospital gown, which is ugly, has poorly designed access points for a laboring patient and are just plain uncomfortable. She also didn't have to sacrifice a nice gown or t-shirt, or debate about a bra or have to hike anything up. Functional, comfortable and looks way better than a hospital gown or throwaway t-shirt. Highly recommended (by the patient--she loved it, and the staff, who all wished they'd had one with their deliveries!) JTG 6.27.13 update: I bought one of these for a friend of mine and she loved it...this is now my go-to gift for baby showers (I got her the one with the martini glass on it, she appreciated the humor).
