Wonderful Insights and Techniques
Just what I was looking for! Not only a book about Doreen's life, beliefs and path but also one that shares many effective lightworker/healer techniques that have helped me. Techniques include working on one's own issues and cleaning one's own energy/chakras, centering oneself, the purpose of Creation and the Universe, work with angels, work with spirit guides, mediumship and spirit releasement, working with healing others and healing the earth. Doreen gives techniques on keeping your work pure and making sure you are aligned with Love and Divine Purpose. Doreen stresses the importance of being aware of your ego that may get in the way of your work as a lightworker or healer, and then also offers suggestions on how to overcome the voice of your ego. I cannot tell you how much more pure her teachings are to me only because I have been turned off by some books of those who teach spirituality and healing but whose teachings are tainted strongly with the writers' egos (i.e., religious bias, extreme-feminist opinions or just plain self-vanity). This book is for those who want to tap in their mystical powers for service to others(Love) and not for themselves(Ego). This book has taken away my lingering fears about the spirit world, tapping into my personal power and meditating more deeply because I learned about praying to angels and spirit guides for guidance and protection and to create Pure intentions and thoughts. For some time now, although I did not believe I was psychic, people, even total strangers, would confide in me and I found out I had knack for offering them unconditional love and advice. When I finally fully realized that I had such a gift I came to the knowledge that I wanted to be a healer. Although, I had already been on a path of self-discovery that included meditation, prayer and community service, I did not yet know how to go about the next steps until I found this book. Of course, this book is not an end in itself, and does not pretend to be. It will open doors for you to further your work, creativity and self-exploration. A wonderful "handbook" for those "first-timers" with the desire to serve humankind with their inherent gifts. ~ ~ ~ December 16, 2020 This is follow up to this review posted September 3, 2000. I'm amazed at reading this 20 years later. At the time of this review, this book had already helped me grow spiritually for about 2 years. I had witnessed in myself the overcoming of great fears about what it means to be deeply spiritual and connected to Divine Source. I think this book deserves a review in hindsight to the fact that Doreen Virtue had returned to her Christian Roots a few years ago. The years immediately following the publication of this book, the author began to write on all sorts of different topics—communicating with Angels, fairies and more. Those years represent to me a glut of books written and put out to make more money. I didn't feel called to buy up every new thing she was publishing. Doreen had also become an in-demand speaker around the world. I didn't feel called to pursue any of her speaking events like she was some guru. She has never been for me a guru of any sort. But she has been a guide. In 2017 news and conversations came out about her returning to her Christian roots. She literally would speak of Jesus repeatedly in all her new podcasts and YouTube videos. Just google it to find out more. She even has a youtube video and book that talks about this return to Jesus. Many YT videos, articles and blogposts were put out in response to her return to Christ. I have no prejudices against this. Prejudice comes from pain and trauma. I am totally aware of the sins and frailty of the humans in power in Christian institutions. That doesn't take away from what I believe is the root of Christian consciousness and Jesus' teachings, or what is written about the religious sect he had been part of or his own spiritual exploration and journey before the events that had unfolded and became fodder for dozens of interpretations by Christian sects across time and across the globe in the centuries after his lifetime. What I want to say is that this book for me, represents a timeless aspect of being both Christian and spiritual. It also represents to me a universality of what expanded spirituality can mean to those raised in the West or with Western traditions. 20 years later, this book remains for me the source of content and the key in taking away my fears about the expanded spirituality I could experience and continue to experience as a human being.
