Gears of Order: Call of Do-Rag
For the life of me, I can't understand why there are so many angry reviews floating around for The Order 1886. If I had to guess, I'd say more than a few people are just mad all the time because they still haven't gotten a Gjallarhorn after 500 hours of mindless grinding in Destiny. I have two (EDIT: Seven now), so I'm not mad all the time. The Game First of all, just like any Uncharted release, play the game on HARD difficulty. it feels right. The Order 1886 is an action game right out of Gears of War but with a better story, more coherent characters and no do-rags. Early going is pretty slow. In the first 10 minutes you really should have had more to do in the prision break. The button prompts are too frequent and so are the cut scenes. But does that make this game bad? If it does, then Call of Duty shouldn't be sold anymore either. For me, I really like this game a lot. I totally dig the atmosphere, the setting and the characters. It must be said at least once: the visuals are pretty unbelievable. Genuinley unbelievable in some spots. I'll address a few common complaints I've read below. Too Cinematic? For some people maybe. But I actually like this stuff. Call me crazy, but as I have written before, I'm one of the three people alive who LOVED watching all the nutty hours of Metal Gear Solid 4 cut scenes. So yes, The Order 1886 could be too much like a movie for some. Too linear? What does that even mean? Nearly every single shooter I have ever played has one way to the end: You hold right trigger and press forward on the joystick. Look, I enjoyed the heck out of Wolfenstien last year but you want linear? That game was pretty darned linear. Buy or Not? If you are looking for dozens of hours of continuous play in EVERY game you play, then steer clear of The Order. Dragon Age Inquisition has you covered. It's a good buy. If you really want to punish yourself and play a game for hundreds of hours to receive no useful rewards other than having your team glitched at the worst possible moment by cheap mechanics and unfair scripting, then I will point you to Destiny. I think The Order is a good diversion from the long slog games. Is it overpriced then? Perhaps. Games like The Order may be best priced in the future at $40 for the 10 hour or less campaigns they offer, but that does not mean they're unworthy. Or maybe after all these years I'm just not as snobby as everybody else about pressing buttons on a plastic controller in my free time.
