Why others don't like it
So, got this for a few work related projects. Saw the bad reviews but figured the overall rating was high enough to go for it. First project flawless. Second, third and 4th I have the jammed up crinkle problem that seem to plague other reviews. So, I says to myself " self, what changed between the first run and the subsequent runs"? Self says " well, it was allowed to heat up a lot longer on the other runs". So, trusting self in general, I make another run and watch through the back with a flashlight. Low and behold, you can see clearly that the laminating material is getting super soft and deforming causing the crinkle and the jams. After a very manly butt smack for self, we start working through how to avoid this problem. Finally, if you're still reading, you gotten to the meat and potatoes of how to solve your issues, thanks for sticking with self and me. If you are doing a full sheet of paper, be sure the paper is slid as far to the sealed(leading) edge as possible. The paper gives the heated(softened) plastic the rigidity it needs to not crinkle and jam. If you are doing smaller pieces of paper like 3x5 note cards you can either make sure to fill the leading edge, especially the outside corners, as completely as possible to add that rigidity, or, you can turn the machine off, let it cool down and turn it back on. As soon as you see that green light pop on, start your document. The machine is not as hot as it gets at that point(but still hot enough) and it doesn't cause the leading edge/corners to soften and deform as much. Final solution that worked for me if you are laminating lots of small things, put all the small things in the pouch and run the pouch through with a piece of printer paper on top and underneath. This again gives rigidity and keeps the jams from being a problem. I admit these are all basically workarounds for a problem that shouldn't exist, but, I bought a 20$ laminator for occasional use. I accept some limitations.
