I initially purchased this journal for a client because of the symbolism of the Tree of Life. I have several variations of the Tree of Life in my home as it is one of my favorite images. I was pleased about the the quality and the look. My client's reaction was wonderful which confirmed that I made the right purchase. I bought 3 more - one for my business partner, one for me and as a thank you gift for another client. I read the description and comments especially in the low ratings very carefully before buying the first one. I was surprised that for the price it is really leather - (I can see it in the under skin and there is the smell of leather). The journal papers does not lay flat - they give you a good amount of paper and I assume that's why there is a strap to wrap around the binder and I handle with care. I also paid attention that the journal is an insert which is why it's refillable. There was a small tear on back grey insert but it didn't take away from the functionality and quickly fixed with a piece of tape. I liked the personal thank you note - it was a nice touch. I believe as with leather, it will soften over time. Every experience is different and I wanted to be intentional and thoughtful with my review to ensure my expectations were realistic. I found this product to be excellent especially for the price. I have more expensive journals that are not this beautiful. I will definitely buy this again. I am initially giving it an overall 4 stars because it just came so I haven't had a chance to use it as yet. I forgot to add that the bag to present it in adds to the beauty of the gift. I have just updated my rating to 5 Stars.
