Complete Transformation
I am giving this 5 stars because of how much it transformed my kitchen. It is relatively easy to work with.
The 'squeegee' included is pretty much worthless. Ended up just using for the edges and small creases that needed smoothing. You can lay it just using the palm of your hand to smooth out air bubbles.
I originally tried the wet method (spraying countertops with soapy water).. DON'T DO IT! It did give you time to move it around.. However, it doesn't stick and you end up with a TON of air bubbles that are impossible to get out. The more we tried to smooth them out, the more bubbles appeared. Eventually, lifted it off, dried the countertops, and relaid.
Keep the paper backing on until you are ready to lay the area. If you don't, it will stick to the areas you aren't ready for and you'll get creases/wrinkles and air bubbles galore.
I would highly recommend if you have a counter backsplash to do it in 2 separate pieces. I didn't when I started because I wanted a seamless line. Took a lot more time and headache because if it isn't laid perfectly straight it will give you big major creases that, no matter what, will not come out.
The corners are pretty easy just watch a couple YouTube videos and find what works best for you.
I do have seams where two pieces connect and unless you are extremely close to the top you can't see them at all.
As for air bubbles, try to smooth out as many as possible while laying it down. If you still end up with some, take a razor blade and just with the corner POKE (don't cut or make a slit) and release the air. Use your fingers to push it all out and it will lay flat. I also used the razor blade to cut my corners and trim off the excess along the bottom of the countertops.
Use a hair dryer and run it over the whole thing. It will shrink it up very slightly and close any air bubble holes, let you smooth out wrinkles/creases, etc. Just don't hold it over the same spot for too long because it will melt the cover!
I did have 3 people working to help install this. It is probably possible to do it with one person but will take a long time and you'll most likely end up with more bubbles/creases than you want. Two or more would be my recommendation. I made the mistake of removing all the backing from one of the pieces, so had 1 person holding it up while the other two of us worked as fast as we could to smooth it out. Definitely not ideal!
If you're on the fence about this, get it... You won't be disappointed! Don't live with ugly countertops any longer!!
