More everything! (time, prep, materials, etc)
This stuff is awesome, and it will definitely turn your gross old bathroom into a shiny new one, but be forewarned that preparation is the killer here. If you're frugal like me, you'll want to only purchase the minimum, and only plan for the minimum amount of time. Don't be me. Double everything you think you need (time, tools, materials, preparation, etc.) and just return what you don't use. The "perfect world" tutorials you see about this stuff make it seem way easier than it is. It takes time and a lot of patience, but considering the alternative (completely replacing the thing you're resurfacing) it's a much cheaper way to go and looks great when it's done. Here are some tips that you will find helpful. This is going to last you a several years, so spend way more time than you think you need to on the front end to make sure you properly prep the surface for good adhesion. If you think you cleaned enough, clean more. If you think you've sanded enough, sand WAAAAY more! Especially with very hard surfaces like porcelain tiles. You need to be sure that the entire surface is scuffed so there is no reflection. If you don't, it WILL lift off the surface over time. And since prep is the killer, give yourself double the time you think need to allow for extra prep, proper dry times, and extra coats. It's like moving... when you think you're halfway done, you've barely scratched the surface. Also, order twice as much as you think you need because I promise it will take more than you calculate it will. It covers really well, but if you are covering colored surfaces, you'll need to do AT LEAST 2 coats, but 3 is better to get a clean white finish. The final product is super durable and looks awesome! Work FAST when applying. I ended up using high density foam rollers, which give a very nice uniform finish, but the epoxy eats foam. As soon as you see the foam disintegrating, switch to a new roller. Otherwise you will leave little bits of foam on the surface that harden as the epoxy dries. So get a lot of extra rollers and just return what you don't use. Lastly, this stuff is really strong, so spend $40 on a legit respirator. It makes a really big difference. The standard masks don't even come close to cutting it. You'll be in the fumes for a couple hours, so there's no point if trying to skimp.
