Consistent, even, quiet, heat
I own three of these units. One with the "ComforTemp" option and two without. I don't really use the "ComforTemp" feature, so on my next purchase I opted for the DeLonghi units without that feature and saved some money. I have had them for three years and I love them. Out of all the portable heaters, I prefer oil-filled. They are very quiet (no blowers or noisy fans) and seem safer than heaters with glowing red surfaces.
My wife and I live in a Cape style home with gas forced air in Upstate New York. One of the things I don't like about gas forced air is that it feels hot while it's on and then it feels cold when it's off. An oil-filled radiator helps keep a more even consistent temperature.
At night, I turn the main heat down to 55 and also during the day while we're at work. Our bedroom is roughly 15x15 and one of these units on medium with the dial set to 4 has no problem keeping the room around 73 at night. The other two units gets used in the two guest rooms when we have company.
Make sure you have the right number of units for the square footage you're trying to cover. I have used them to easily heat spaces up to 250 square feet (closed room). In larger spaces, or open spaces, your may want more units for a variety of reasons.
Some people complain of a smell. Make sure you burn them in (turn all the settings to their highest) for a minimum of 5 hours before using them. Run the new unit for several hours on high to burn off any manufacturing residue and you'll be fine.
The other complaint I've read revolves around speed to heat a room. These units do not have noisy blowers or fans. They heat based on convection. They work best when they can be left on to do their thing. Example: the unit in our bedroom gets turned on around 4 PM and runs until we leave for work the next morning... a little over 14 hours. Oil-filled aren't really meant for trying to heat a space for only 30 minutes or even an hour. They are designed to be turned on and left on.
As I mentioned in the beginning, I've had mine for three years; they don't smell, they work flawlessly, and produce very nice consistent heat. If I have a need for another unit, I'd purchase another oil-filled DeLonghi unit... no question!
