Nurse here...temporal artery will always be more accurate than an oral temp, as long as your pt hasn't recently been outside and you (read:your tech) can accurately locate the temporal artery. As for temperature accuracy, tested against much more expensive machines in my facility, did very well. It was simply more convenient on a busy floor sometimes, especially during flu season.
