The R+ Legend vs The UFO: Side by side comparison of features
In this review, I will compare the R+ and the UFO as thoroughly as I can. This will help you decide whether you should get the UFO or upgrade to the UFO if you already have a pair of the R+ Legend. Please read till the end and post questions if you have any. Thank you for your patience. At the outset I would like to say that the UFO is not meant to be the successor of the R+ Legend in the same class. If you were expecting these to have the same set of features with some add-on features, you will be disappointed. The R+ Legend and the UFO are both leaders in their own class. While the R+ is designed to have a heavy bass effect, the UFO is designed to sound more balanced and simulate a virtual 7.1 surround sound experience. If you bought these with the intention of listening to thumping bass like in the R+, you will be disappointed. The UFO enables the listener to experience a full range of sound frequencies and turning on the 3D Effect enhances the bass and treble while suppressing the mids. Both modes sound good but you will not hear thumping bass, unless you play around with the equalizer settings on your music player. The UFO is designed to look more classy. The color scheme is more conservative, with a matte finish. The R+ is shiny and in-your-face with its color scheme. I personally like and own the black and red UFO, silver R+ Legend and the white R+ (Photos attached). The padding cushions in the UFO are more comfortable than the ones int he R+ and feel like they heat up a lot less after prolonged usage, which make them suitable for watching movies/TV shows. The buttons in the UFO are elite looking and concealed under large panels. The buttons in the R+ are circular and slightly protrude out of the side. This may not look the best but makes it easier to feel around and figure out what button you're pressing. The UFO frame is made of metal alloy. This makes it slightly heavier but also more durable. The R+ is susceptible to damage because of its flimsy plastic build. The UFO promises to be able to withstand a few more accidental drops and step ons. The UFO comes with a fancy looking hard carry-case with a handle, so you can safely store/transport your headset. The UFO has bluetooth 4.1 technology with is more energy efficient than the R+, which uses bluetooth 4.0 technology. The response of the buttons of the UFO is almost instantaneous while there is a slight delay after the button press in the R+. The R+ has the NFC enabled quick pairing feature, which is absent in the UFO. The R+ also has a microSD card slot to play mp3 tracks stored on a microSD card of upto 32 GB capacity. I particularly like this feature because I can spare my phone when the battery is low. The UFO does not have a microSD card slot. The R+ comes with a built in equalizer that has 3 settings (Pop, Rock and Flat I'm guessing) that can be toggled by pressing the volume up and down buttons at the same time. The UFO has 2 settings: the normal mode and the 3D effect mode. The interface of the UFO is similar to the Bluedio BS-2/3 where you need to press and hold the center button to turn on the device, and hold it even longer for pairing. The R+ only has to be pressed once and it automatically turns on and pairs with the last device or goes into pairing mode. This could be a little annoying because it can accidentally be turned on when something bumps against the button. The LED color scheme for turning ON/OFF and pairing of the UFO and the R+ is different. The brightness and behavior of the lights are also different. I particularly like that the LED lights of the UFO are a lot dimmer and blink with a greater delay than those of the R+, so that it is not too disturbing when in a dark room. Both the R+ and the UFO last ridiculously long after they have been fully charged. I have paired them both to PC, Mac and android phones and they work beautifully. The 3.5mm wired connection works well but personally I prefer the convenience of the bluetooth especially because the battery is consumed even when the headset is connected via a wire. The UFO performs slightly better when making and answering phone calls, but the difference is negligible. This was my effort at comparing the R+ and the UFO as thoroughly as I can. I would pick the R+ over the UFO, simply because I like the heavy bass and the SD card feature. That being said, I would definitely pick either one over a Studio Wireless Beats by Dr Dre headphones or a Bose Quiet Comfort headphones any day. The Bluedio headsets are great value for money without compromising on sound quality or comfort.
