Absolutely works
I live in an historic home in a costal region where attic rats are common; from time-to-time they get into my attic. The rats love this bait and it kills them off fast. And the beauty of the poison is that it causes dehydration — the rats leave your home to seek water and die outside.
To give you an idea just how attracted they are to the bait, I once received a free sample of a few blocks that were shrink wrapped and packaged in a box. I left the box in my attic and rats chewed through it and the plastic.
A few things I've learned over the years:
1. For best results liberally spread the bait blocks around your attic (don't use a bait box). Once mice and rats begin to nest they don't like to travel far. So if the closest block is 20 feet away from where they're nesting, for example, they probably won't touch it.
2. If mice and rats get into your attic once that means you have holes somewhere, and they'll get in again. That's the issue with my historic house — the attic is hardly hermetically sealed. So long as I keep bait out I see and hear no evidence of rats in the attic — as soon as they enter the attic they eat the bait and die. Only when I forgot to put fresh bait do they come back and start to nest. A 4 pound bucket usually lasts me a year.
3. In the summer I put bait boxes outside of my house to try and keep the whole area rat free.
