As a person who originally comes from a place where they sell "Miswaks" on the streets i can say that i do have a bit of experience on this product, being in the US is kinda difficult to get some sort of a good product.
A freshly cut Miswak tend to have a strong smell they don't smell bad at all if you chose some thing really good, the closest thing i guess is pepper mint, but it has its own smell, plus you would know if the Miswak is good or not by leaving a stingy feeling after you passed it around your gums and the root might leave a trace over the corners of your mouth, the more stingy the better, plus i prefer Miswaks over any regular toothpaste is because i hate the after taste and stomach discomfort i get from using toothpaste.
This product however, giving the fact that its very hard to find some thing that good, its the closest that i can find to the thing i would find back home, the vacuumed packaging is excellent, the quality of the cut is perfect.
Regarding the smell and taste,
I soaked the 1st Miswak for 4 hours as it said in the instructions, and cleaned it and used it, i was satisfied the smell of the Miswak does smell a bit bitter or as light vinegar, but only when you place it next to your nose, and that comes most probably because if you package any Miswak would have the same smell after, but trust me when i say this is good because I've tried others and the smell terrible to the point where you throw them away.
Taste, after soaking it for 4 hrs it taste fine just like any miswak I've used before, in fact i felt it was a bit diluted from the 4hrs so i guess ill soak the other one for max 2hrs, but I'm happy with the quality of the product.
Price, it is over priced but worth it and i would buy it again and again, plus a single Miswak could last too long if you took care of it mainly don't place it in the sun or leave it int the car under the sun, the point is don't let them dry out.
Goodbye toothpaste
