Finally a boom box that has controls that you can see and use if the boom box is sitting on the floor; a common place. The size is compact; much smaller than the old Sony I had. I'll post a picture. I recorded a CD with all sorts of MP3 encodings and bit rates, and it handled it just fine. It does handle folders on CDs, letting you navigate through folder trees. The display shows either elapsed time of the current track, or Folder/File numbers for MP3 disks or Song # for Audio CDs. You can record to cassette from CD or radio. The radio pulls in weak stations pretty well. The only drawbacks is it isn't terribly intuitive how to set the radio presets manually, and a lot of buttons have dual (or more) functions, so you have to think a bit to do some things. Also the FM tuner is set up to work for both United States and Canada radio stations, so when you are holding down the tune - or + button, you'll see 96.0, 96.1, 96.2, 96.3 etc.; United States only transmits on the odd decimal frequencies. There should be a setting to let you swap your location.
