This thing works great!
This thing works great! Yes, the plastic is a little flimsy as other reviewers have said. So what?! It sits there and it works way beyond my expectations.
I work in a shop with no AC and no insulation. It's usually over 100 degrees from June through September her. We're currently at 100 degrees or more for over 30 days in a row. Right now it's 100 degrees as I type this. I put this cooler under my desk, facing me and it keeps my legs, all the way up to my arms and neck, nice and cool. My legs are almost too cold right now.
For reference, I used to have a little LG portable AC unit under my desk ($350). That thing pretty much only kept my crotch cool. When it got to be 100 degrees or more in here, the AC unit would over heat and the AC would start cycling on and off until I left work (about 2 or 3 hours). So it goes from cold air to blowing hot air on me. It's been getting worse and worse too. Usually cold for about 2 minutes, hot for about 10 minutes. It's not pleasant. The dehumidified AC and the hot air blowing on me, meant that my contacts always dried out and I had to use clear eyes several times every afternoon. My arms would stick to my desk as I type from being so hot and sweaty. It's gross.
My favorite thing about this cooler is that it gives me more energy by keeping me much cooler. Every summer I would go home at the end of the day and be wiped out from sitting in the heat all day. This was with my portable AC unit running. Since I've had this evap cooler, I don't feel wiped out at all. I can go home and I'm ready to work some more around the house if needed. This is definitely one of my best purchases.
I originally got this idea from going into a store that had this running in their front room. The front room was about 25'x25' with two doors that were open, and went into different hallways. They checked their thermostat and told me this unit dropped the room temp down 10 degrees. It was nice and cool in there and I'm sure much cheaper to run than running the AC to cool off the room another 10 degrees.
