Saved The Day!
I am a runner who has managed to stress fracture my calcaneus (heel) in three places. I have a short walking boot and was ordered to use crutches with absolutely no weight bearing for 6 weeks. I'm about to leave for a week long family beach vacation and was considering not going because no walking on sand or otherwise, no ocean swimming, and trying to navigate around cramped quarters in a three story house that's basically made of stairs sounds like exactly the nightmare I don't want to have...especially on crutches.
Speaking of crutches, let me just address the absolute pile of awful that those are. If you are reading this review, I am certain you are well aware. The struggle is real. My armpits are raw, my wrists feel like they are breaking, and my elbows don't want to move when I first wake up in the morning. My dogs are terrified of the crutches (with good reason as I keep smooshing their tails with them), and in order to make/drink/travel with a cup of coffee there needs to be things like a funnel, thermos, and rolling cart involved. The only plus is that I finally had a reason to use one of the electric carts at the grocery store. Surprisingly, not as awesome as you'd think.
ANYWAY, enter iWalk 2.0! I ordered this with one day shipping in hopes that it would salvage my vacation and make the next several weeks more bearable. I mean, not running is already pretty awful, but not running while also unable to do basic household/work/life activities/chores is totally ridiculous. I have to give MASSIVE KUDOS to iWalk! The instruction manual was very comprehensive and the illustrations made assembly really easy to follow. If you go to their website they have tutorial videos too on how to assemble, fit, and learn to walk with the crutch. The longest one was, I think, 8 minutes. It is that easy to figure out. I had my iWalk out of the box, assembled and fitted in under 30 minutes total. They even offer trouble shooting if you have a tall boot, or weird pains anywhere when using the crutch. Once you fit it correctly you just need to snap the clips on and off to put it on or remove it. In about 15 minutes I was already tackling stairs, and after a few hours of practice I was running errands. I've even carried a small laundry basket, a watering can, and loaded the dishwasher while wearing the iWalk. I am totally grateful that I stumbled on this item. It is worth every penny and is going to make the next several weeks of healing much more bearable.
EDIT 8/16/16: I have been using the iWalk for about 3 weeks now and it continues to be a life saver. Today I did some PT and an upper body weight workout while wearing the iWalk. Also, over the weekend I attended Boston Comicon and wore and moved around in the iWalk for 6 hours in a three story expo center with a broken escalator and limited elevator. STAIRS! It saved the day! I have noticed that the knee pad has begun to compress a bit so I have padded it with a towel, and will order a replacement if I need to. I have also had to add padding to the knee strap because it was somewhat uncomfortable. Mainly this is because it is summer, I am in shorts most of the time, and it has been 100 degrees every day. Otherwise the iWalk remains the star of the show and is pretty much the greatest!
