I got this gate tonight and though I have not had the chance to use it much and see how it turns out, I know it is going to be a great gate. My hallway is 36 inches and this gate fit very well without the extension. it's sturdy and I love how tall it is so we don't have to bend down to open it. I got this to block off my hallway so my youngest can't get up from his room and wonder the rest of the house before we wake up especially since he's learning to open the front door. Now his only option is to wake up and play in his room or ours because he can't get past the gate! Which he immediately was determined to do. Within minutes of setting this up, he pushed his little car up to the gate to stand on to try reaching the latch. He could not open it. He was hanging on to the gate doing pull ups and swinging (he is 25 lbs and 2 years old) on it, freely trying to open it and he couldn't nor did it knock over! I immediately knew it is going to be a greate gate. The gate is about as tall as my 4-almost 5 year old and she can open it perfectly which is great because she's pretty self sufficient and it's OK for her to wander the house if she needs to or go to bathroom! Anyways, this gate is great.
