This is fine for what it is. I ordered the gray model and it looks better in person than it does in the picture. I originally wanted black, but that color was sold out. As far as comfort goes, it gets a 3.5/5 from me. I didn't experience any of the hard bar line issues that early reviews mentioned. However I took a look at the mid-section from both sides, I can see how their processes could end up with that becoming an issue for some people. It doesn't look shoddy, but it's definitely not the greatest piece of engineering that I've seen. There are people complaining that the pillows, legs, etc didn't arrive. I thought the same thing to until I read the instructions. The bottom of the futon, the black side, stores these items. Just pull from the ends/edges of the black tarp and it will unfasten since it uses fairly solid velcro. It's actually a pretty great design, I love this aspect of the futon. Assembly was simple, although I made the mistake of doing so in a very tiny room and opening the couch with the cushion side up. That cushion side needs to go down immediately. Assembly is simple enough and all of the required tools are provided. You don't need any tools for the sides, you just slide them into the metal bars on the side (not over, but into - your arm rests will effectively be the "little spoon" in this situation).The allen wrench that it came with is pretty solid for this type of project, but I went lazy and used my own screwdriver with an allen wrench bit (pulled it from another screwdriver kit of mine): HAMMERHEAD 4V Lithium Rechargeable Screwdriver with Patented Circuit Sensor Technology and 9-Piece Bit Kit. The light that comes on with the auto-screwing help out with seeing covered holes (part of the bottom tarp improperly covered them after placing it back). I actually ended up with an extra washer, I double checked to make sure that every screw had one. What I didn't like is that while the corner legs were properly aligned with good holes, the center legs looked wrong when I assembled them. They were off-center and did not look flat despite fastening them completely. When I flipped the couch up it doesn't seem like it's a problem. This is an absolutely fabulous couch. It's firm, thick and feels great to sit on and even lean on with my full weight (I'm a 5'11" male, I weigh 368 lbs). Sleeping on this the first night it was not very comfortable. It was just a serviceable affair and was better than sleeping on the couch or the floor. I've bought foam mattresses from Amazon for the same price as this futon that were more comfortable. However by morning, it felt different. Whether my fat beat it down or it finally got to relax I was extremely comfortable. I didn't want to get up and every rest, nap and overnight sleep on this couch has been good from that point forward. I've still had better comfort from other futons throughout my life, but none were only ~$200. usually at this pricepoint you get just a mattress or you'll get a mattress and frame, but the frame will bend easy or not hold up your weight well. You'll usually get a rounded bar as an arm rest instead of what you get here. It also often looks like a futon and not like a couch while in couch mode. I'm mostly satisfied with my purchase, this has a good bang for the buck. If you want better, spend more. Otherwise this is fairly solid on a budget. Note: The pillows work, but they are about half of the size I would want them to be. However, the pictures still accurately portray their size. Either deal with what you get or get something bigger. I sleep in a kind of half-arsed fetal position. If I were to lay completely flat/outright my head and feet would be right at the borders of this futon or potentially over by no more than half of an inch to an inch at best. If I lay straight in any non-180 degree position or in y normal sleep form, there's no real danger of hanging off. Taller people will want to get something longer if their sleep styles won't accomodate the length of this futon.
