This seems to be a good charger. It is very nice in that each slot an independently charge a battery with visible indication of the charge progress of each slot. It changes in a reasonable time and does not seem to overheat the battery. Having 8 slots is very useful as we are using a number of rechargeable batteries in things like flames candles, etc. Used the discharge cycle once, it took forever for it to do the discharge and did not wait to see what happens when the batteries are total exhausted. The caveats: 1) It has a nice blue backlight LCD display to show battery status, but it does not ever turn off the backlight. So now we have a nightlight in the room where the charger is plugged in. This could be annoying to some and seems like a bit of a parasitic power drain. 2) It will not charge a totally discharged battery. It will not register on the display at all if inserted. I discarded 2 batteries thinking they were defective before I realized that if I plugged them into my old, dumb, charger for 5 minutes, then put them into this unit that they would charge just fine. 3) Sometimes it is a bugger to get the batteries into the slot such that they have a good connection, particularly with AAA size. It is just a challenge to get it all the way down into the slot and requires some dinking around to get it seated.
