I have owned and operated a pet sitting business for over 15 years and I always cringe when owners hand me retractable leashes. I've found them to be down right dangerous! However, I do love the option of giving my dogs more room to run at the end of the leash. I started looking for a reflective leash and came across this one. The fact that the entire length of the leash is bright yellow is a WONDERFUL safety feature and makes this so much safer for use in public areas. The typical retractable leash with its thin, black retractable line blends in too much and I've seen them cause way too many accidents (my dad, and avid bicyclist has accidentally ridden his bicycle right through them causing a huge mess for bike and dog! You just can't see them!). I also believe the "tape style" (flat and thicker) as opposed to the "line style" (cord-like and thin) is much safer! If it does get wrapped around something it's much easier to untangle and not as likely to cause restrictive damage. The tape is also easier on the hands if you do need to quickly retract the dog and hold onto the tape -- whereas the line-styles are hard to grab in an emergency. The only thing I was disappointed in -- I couldn't find this leash in all the size options. I had to order a larger size that what I need. The little dogs need this option even more so than the larger dogs, I'd love to see them offer this in ALL the sizes. I'd also like it if the tape itself was reflective, not just the leash casing.
