Best thing for your lawn hands down. Get away from synthetics.
I have been using Milorganite for years. Reason being when you use synthetic lawn food like all the name brands at the store you are making your lawn totally dependent on those chemicals because they kill of everything beneficial in your lawn and the soil becomes dead of nutrients and once you stop those chemicals your lawn will suffer if not die.. This is quite the opposite, this treats the soil that the microorganisms feed off of leaving food for the roots of the grass to absorb. This does NOT work overnight so if you expect to put this down and tomorrow your lawn is bright green you will be disappointed. The plus is its impossible to burn your lawn by over applying this as it takes a while to break down. I can promise you my neighbor treats his lawn with a lawn company, not only does he have hundreds of dandelions every year to just a few that I pull in mine, but his grass is faded green and looks horrible. My other neighbor is a landscaper and I have seen some of my other neighbors he treats and they are constantly fighting with weeds and skunks digging up grubs.. Read my review on Beneficial Nematodes, as I have no skunks digging up my lawn. To prove this I took dirt samples from around my lawn and garden to Illinois department of argiculture that tests lawn and garden soil for a small fee. My soil came back as healthy as possible. I even had one of the master gardeners who you get to reach out to as part of the program call me and ask what I was doing because he said its rare to see such numbers here in Illinois. I explained what I do, as well as use some of Jerry Bakers home made tonics on my garden and lawn as well, he said well whatever that is keep doing it. Also one night we had a torrential flooding and the aftermath left thousands and thousands of earthworms all over my driveway and sidewalk. My son comes in saying dad the driveway is covered with worms.. Never in my life had I seen anything like it, you could not take a single step without stepping on a worm, yet my neighbors had a few to none. When I discussed this with the master gardener he said its because your lawn is so healthy and full of nutrients that is what worms want, so its no surprise your lawn is loaded, to avoid drowning they came to the surface. I will say I did not buy this from Amazon but my local big box store that is only $8 a bag. According to Milorganite whom I spoke with said they recommend applying this product 4 times a year. Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day and Thanksgiving. Reason being so late in the spring season is to give the roots of your grass time to grow. SO many times these early spring fertilizers are loaded with high levels of nitrogen which causes the foliage to grow quickly but the problem is without a strong root system you will be left with weak blades of grass that are susceptible to disease. For years now I have been applying this during those 4 times of year and believe me if I could not get this from the big box store its still worth every penny to me because I can't tell you how many times I have been stopped asking who treats my lawn and I love seeing their expression when I say I do... My home is the biggest investment of my life so I am going to use what works to keep the value and curb appeal up. The lawn photos were taken this year 2019, I have been using Milorganite for 10 years maybe and every year my lawn is the thickest and healthiest. I took the photo to compare my neighbors lawn on the right in the first photo on on the left in the second to show the difference.. His lawn is treated by the lawn spraying company that comes around and sprays every lawn with the same chemical.
