Great Resource
I've owned this book for awhile now and I'm always going back to it! I've even shared it with my personal trainer who also thinks it's great. I love the simplicity of the workouts, the detailed explanations and that it's put together in a way that makes it easy to design your meal plans, workouts, etc. If you put the work in this program works. I haven't even followed it exactly and I've seen results. I was already a generally fit and intrinsically motivated person, but weight training was something foreign to me. I really felt in control and knowledgable after reading this book which helped to boost my confidence in the gym. The workouts gave me something to work towards and an idea of what I was "looking for" in weight training which has helped to guide the work that I've done with my personal trainer. Due to my lifestyle I'll never be a "body builder" (long distance hiker, cyclist and traveler) but whenever I'm back home for awhile I pick up "Thinner, Leaner, Stronger" and get back to work.
One suggestion I have is to go a bit more in-depth on the potential positive and negative effects of dieting, weight training, having low body fat, etc on the female body. Since this book is marketed to women I found it a bit disheartening that the section on this was so vague and short. As a woman who used to be an athlete and who lost her period for a long period of time I can tell you that having even somewhat low body fat can be extremely damaging to the female body and having a period is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT. Even after gaining quite a bit of body fat it took years for my period and hormones to return to normal. The female reproductive system is incredibly sensitive (some women are more sensitive than others) and even small changes in diet, exercise, stress, injuries, etc can throw everything off. There is tons of research on this, but I feel like it's not discussed often enough. Anyways, I just thought I'd throw that out there! Otherwise I really love this book and I will continue to recommend it to my friends and family.
