Blown AWAY! Purple Dyes over Natural Brown hair!!!!!!
Its always been my dream to have purple hair, but not PURPLE hair - I wanted brown hair that was purple if that makes any sense! Last week I tried a brand called SPLAT! - it was messy, it stained me - it stained everything - and it was difficult to apply. Then it rinsed out in some places, not in others - it looked horrible. To be fair - I have difficult hair to dye. Because I don't use products or even blow dry my hair that often. I had a 3 hr dye job in a salon rinse out once too. They said my hair was in too good of condition. But still - I wouldn't recommend SPLAT!
For those that have read this review previously - please make note of the new information added regarding using Developer. Ion however is an AMAZING product. and I tried it because of the reviews on here and Sally Beauty Supply website. I did a claryifying treatment first Ion Crystal Clarifying Treatment, and thinned out the dye with the Ion Sensitive Scalp Developer (10)Ion Sensitive Scalp 10 Volume Creme Developer 32 oz. because everyone said it was so thick.
Since originally writing this review I have been instructed that I should not use the Developer with this type of dye as it has peroxide in it. I was told I should use conditioner instead.
We used a bowl and brush to apply it, and put hair sections in tin foil by the roots to bundle the dyed sections. After removing the foil I used an old school bonnet style hair dryer for 30 min., then cool rinsed, followed by the Ion Color Brilliance After Color Treatment Ion Color Defense After-Color Sealer 20 oz.another cool rinse, and blow dry. Result? To my surprise - amazing purple color over my naturally unbleached medium dark brown hair! Varying shades of deep purples that absolutely pop in different lighting and with movement.
The product smells good and DOESN'T STAIN YOUR SKIN!!!!!! I don't know how they do it, but it's awesome!
We used 2 complete tubes of the Purple Dye, most of the developer (4 oz) [probably could have used less] on my hair which crown to tip is 2 ft. long. And it took about 4.5 hours start to finish. I recommend buying 3 tubes of dye - for just in case.
In case you're curious - the "we" in this adventure - was mostly my husband - who works in a metals fabrication shop! So this is about as far out of his "normal" zone as you can get. And the results are stunning.
At Ions price point, the lack of mess, the "relative" ease, the stunning results - this is the only "alternative" hair color I will ever buy. Can't wait to see how long it lasts!
