Great mower, wish I could give it five stars
The mower has performed well and does a great job of mowing. I bought the 1601 with the two, two amp/hour batteries instead of the single four amp/hour battery. We live on an full acre and use our Hustler ZTR to cut the main part of the yard then follow up under trees and hard to get to spots with the GW mower. We get two mows out of a single charge of the two amp/hour battery. If you have a small yard and plan to use this as your primary mower you should pay the extra for the four amp/hour battery. The mower arrived in a large box that wasn't well protected. The box was heavily damaged but fortunately the mower was OK. It was easy to put together with no tools being required. Larger print instructions would make assembly easier, especially for older folks like me. It's quick and easy to change between side discharge, mulching and rear bagging modes with no tools required. Overall it's well engineered. One weakness is the side discharge chute. It's held in place by a spring loaded door that covers the hole when it's not being used in side discharge mode. It's not held securely. The slightest bump on anything and the discharge shoot falls off. It's easy to reattach but it's quite a pain in the backside to have to do that all the time. We use rear bag mode most of the time so that problem isn't in play for us. If you use primarily the side discharge you'll need to put a screw through the flap into the chute to hold it in place. When the mower arrived the batteries were pretty scarred up like they'd been dropped during the manufacturing process. I called customer service and they promptly replaced them. Easy, no hassle. Over all, it's a great mower so far and would easily earn five stars if they would re-engineer the side discharge chute.
