The power button must be long pressed for 5 seconds - not 2!
Like some of the other reviewers who thought the product died after the first use, I was very aggravated initially. But later in the day I decided to give it another try and realized the directions were wrong. 2 seconds is only enough to turn it on the first time, after that it must be held for about 5 seconds, and it turns on every time now. The drill does stop turning when too much pressure is applied and will shut off for a couple minutes if this is done too often. I thought this meant the product was cheap and was even more aggravated upon first use, but later realized it is probably to prevent an inexperienced user (me) from "burning" the nail bed area bc of too much friction. It works best with a smooth tapping motion rather than consistent pressure. You need pressure with a manual nail file - not an electric drill lol. Overall I am very happy with the results, My nails look SO clean and perfect - I got it mainly for my tedious cuticle areas which looked (and felt) like I went at them with a hacksaw after using a cuticle nipper. But it worked great with helping with the removal of my gel polish too 😊 I did not use the supplied drill bits bc they are carbide, I purchased a separate pack on amazon of "diamond" drill bits for under 5 bucks. They worked great. The incorrect long press instructions are why I am deducting one star, I was afraid to press longer for fear I might break the drill at first, but later when I was on the verge of returning it - I just said F it and pressed until I the darn thing turned on!
