LG gets it right with the HBS-810 Tone Ultra bluetooth headset
Over the years I have purchased from Amazon several different models of the LG HBS headset. I have generally liked them all. However, some I have liked better than others. For instance, one model might have excellent incoming sound but be a little muffled on the outgoing sound, in the opinion of those I have spoken with using the headset. For other models, the outgoing sound has been very clear, while the inbound hasn't had quite enough volume or clarity for me. The HBS-810 (Tone Ultra) sounds wonderful in both modes. The JBL speakers produce crystal clear sound and at sufficient volume for my taste. As to the retractable earpieces, I was hesitant at first, believing this to be a potential weakness, as every time you listen you have to pull them out by a seemingly very delicate line. And, since there are no magnets, if the spooling mechanism were to fail, you would be left with an unattractive dangling earpiece. An LG rep convinced me that they are very hardy. Besides, there is a one-year warranty, which would result in a replacement if the mechanism failed. FYI I have tried and rejected the more expensive HBS-900 (INFINIM), which also has retractable earpieces. That model has great sound, but the neck piece is much stiffer than other models, which have more supple harnesses. Also, to retract the earpieces on that model, you must press a button. On the HBS-810, you retract by simply pulling the piece out a little farther outband letting it go. However, I realize that this feature is a matter of personal taste. The HBS-900 is also 50% more expensive. And to my ear, the JBL speakers on the HBS-810 deliver a crisper sound than the HBS-900's Harman Kardon speakers. The bottom line: I think LG has finally nailed it with the HBS-810.
