Let me begin by saying that I'm new to the world of hair-curling. Generally, prefer very simple hair or makeup, because I don't know much about styling. But a friend showed me how to use her hot rollers, and I was pleased with the results. I bought this Remington set to try myself at home. My hair is long (about 24") and very, very thick. Because it's so thick and heavy, my hair does not like to hold a curl. I have tried previously to use curling irons, and after a solid 45 minutes working through my hair, had managed nothing but adding a slight wave. Not the pronounced curls I had hoped for! However, this set is awesome, and so easy to use (even for a clueless chick like me). It only takes a few minutes to heat up after being plugged in. Then simply section your hair, and roll it around the cylinder from the tips up to your scalp. The cylinders will be hot to the touch, but not too bad! Clip the rolled hair to stay in place while the rollers cool -- generally 10 to 20 minutes, depending on how serious you want those curls to be. (Less time for gentle curls, more time for really springy and tight ones!) Then unroll gently, shake out a bit for a more natural look, and fix in place with your preferred hairspray or product. Seriously, I am so awful with these things, and even I can get beautiful curls with this set! I would give it five stars except for my single complaint: the metal pins to keep the rollers in place on your head simply don't work very well. They are difficult to affix and don't hold...at least, not in thick hair like mine. But you can get a few packs of large butterfly clips from the dollar store, and it'll hold in place like a dream! Certainly worth the small extra hassle for the great results.
