If you are considering this model vs. the ultra orbiter, keep in mind that the commercial 550MC unit also has a 1/2 horsepower motor despite the Amazon description which indicates that it has a 3/4 hp motor. This can be confirmed by contacting Oreck. It appears that the cord on the commercial model is longer but that the orbiter ultra has a longer warranty. The 550MC commercial model comes with a black mounting pad which is essential for use of accessories. Accessories are available at additional cost. The machine is a pleasure to use. It is easy to control and has plenty of power. I cleaned my vinyl floor and also a good portion of my wood dining room floor. I was satisfied with the results. The ultra model appears to be so similar to the commercial model that I think either would be fine. I did think I was getting a more powerful motor when I placed my order but there is little to go wrong with this device necessitating a 10 year warranty (applicable to the ultra unit) so I don't regret my purchase. Oreck customer phone service is not outsourced and the people I spoke to were friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. I have yet to try to clean tile so I can't comment on this. I have no plans to use the machine to clean carpet as I have a carpet cleaner which uses detergent. Addendum: Despite the information provided by Orek's customer service to the contrary it appears that this unit really does have a 3/4 h.p. motor. I am happy to hear this since it still can be used with any standard 15 amp outlet. I have used this floor machine several times since purchase on sheet vinyl and wood and I have no regrets. It is a fine machine.
