Paralyzed and Perfect
I was paralyzed as a police officer/detective, and as a result of that, I am no longer able to walk. I was given a service dog, Turk helps with everything and has become my best friend. However, sometimes my best friend can get a little stinky. He is a 110 pound, King Shepard. It cost us on average $55 to have him groomed, $80 if they come to the house. When I heard of this machine I was excited, not only would we save money on shampooing Turk, but I could do it myself. When the machine arrived keeping in mind we have tried cleaning Turk in the tub, then in the shower, in a large animal, feeder in the yard and it always ended with my wife and I as wet, or wetter than the dog. I thought this could be good as I might be able to do it myself, just sitting on the end of a chair and using my bad arm to hold the hose and my good hand to use the spray nozzle. Turk is a good listener; he has been vacuumed before to trim his hair. He doesn't run from the noise, he was not always so easy going around the sound, but by giving him a treat while standing near the vacuum, he eventually learned, (I would say about an hour or less) and he knew the vacuum wouldn't hurt him. Now he likes being vacuumed and combed. So when the BarkBath arrived, we knew that it would not be an issue. We did his first and every bath since without a leash or collar. Just putting warm water in the machine makes him love it. I point and tell him where to stand, (using a place command) and he stands there. More often than not I can do this myself, and he is dry enough afterward that he does not do that dog shake thing dogs do to dry off. Out of all the times, we washed him; he may have only done that shake once. However, even then very little water came off of him as the machine vacumes so much water off. I just make sure I keep the wand tight to him and move it slow enough to vacuum the water off, then run it over him a second time without squeezing the water on trigger. It takes me about 10 minutes to shampoo him, I do it every week, one week with shampoo one week with just water, then alternate every other week shampoo or water. I highly recommend this. I know when I am done and ever since we started using this about a month now it has our dog smelling better, and he seems like he has a closer bond with us; with everything, we do with him. We do everything as if it is a training exercise; a lot of "Good boy," "yes," "daddy's little boy," that kind of thing. He is praise driven, so he likes to be told he is doing good, and talking to him keeps his mind more on us than what we are doing. I hope you will consider this machine. As a paraplegic, I know it has been a life saver. In the pic, you can see I can sit down and lean over to shampoo him, he is not wearing a collar or leash but still stands there to be shampooed. (excuse my typos, I have one good hand to type with) I promise this machine works well and can be used in a living room, or any room without drenching your house down with water.
