I have to come clean with you, I’m 65 years old and I didn’t buy this toy for a child or grandchild, I bought it for myself. That was eight weeks ago and frankly, I’m hooked. So much so that I checked out the Foreverspin.com website, where there are many more to choose from, in a variety of materials, including copper, bronze, cast iron and sleek black zirconium to name a few. The top is among the world’s oldest toys and they’re not just for kids anymore. Each one of these little things is simple, elegant, timeless, enchanting and impossible to ignore. I keep my collection in the kitchen where they’ll be seen and spun. I love watching people’s faces light up when they give one a try. They might not spin forever (you knew that, right?), but they spin for a long time. Long enough for me to forget that I even spun one, only to be reminded when I hear it clatter to a stop. Spinning these tops is both soothing and challenging at the same time. Even at rest, they are individual works of art. How rare is that? I could go on, but you get the idea.
