Thank you for saving my cat!!!
My 17 year old cat has always been lean and healthy. But this past year it's been difficult getting her to eat enough to sustain her weight. It really worried me, so my vet and I decided to take her off the Rx Science Diet that she had been eating for her thyroid issues. Now I give her Rx med daily in her ears to control her thyroid. The vet said I could now give her any kind of cat food. But when I asked what kind, she said, "Just anything she'll eat!" Easier said than done...
I started with the "grilled" Fancy Feast with gravy. Wow, she LOVED the gravy! But she just licked it all off and left the "rubbery" turkey, salmon, tuna... etc. behind. I tried every flavor, crossing my fingers each time. Sadly, she wouldn't eat the meat no matter what kind. And the gravy wasn't nearly enough food for her. She was still losing weight!
Then I decided to read reviews on Amazon. I was reminded by one person that cats in the wild eat a variety of animals to get the essential proteins and nutrients to survive. So it is important that we give our precious felines food rich in protein, but also packed with the essential minerals and vitamins that cats in the wild get just by hunting and eating different kinds of prey.
I stopped giving her the kind with gravy (or the rubbery grilled meats) because I knew there wasn't nearly enough protein and calories in the gravy alone. And I could tell she was always hungry, but she would starve before she ate something less than satisfactory. I threw out so much uneaten cat food!
One reviewer said that the "Classic" Fancy Feast by Purina (pate') was recommended by the vet. Well... my cat LOVES this stuff!! I am so happy I finally found something she loves but is also loaded with protein!
During her last check up, the vet told me she has gained 1/3 of her body weight!!
It seems like she loves the beef most, but I do switch it up and give her chicken or turkey pate' so she doesn't get bored with her beloved beef.
It's just an added bonus for me and my guests that her food doesn't stink up the kitchen with any pungent odors. It isn't because she immediately gobbles it all down, because she doesn't...and never has. It's just that the beef pate' actually smells like GOOD cat food.
I get two boxes a month sent to me with Amazon's Subscribe and Save (LOVE!) just to make sure I always have some on hand. I also buy one box of "variety" classic Fancy Feast.
Thank you!!
