I've always bought i7s when building a PC for gaming, but after educating myself on the true essentials for a gaming machine I decided to take a leap of faith (for me at least) and buy this i5. This was a smart choice, the i5-4690K is an astounding processor for gaming and is overclock friendly. Don't make the mistake I've been making for years and fall pray to the only-i7 for gaming hype. Unless you're intending to make multiple VMs on your machine, there is ZERO benefit to buying an i7. I have my processer running in tandem with a 980 GTX and there hasn't been a game yet that I haven't been able to play with everything maxed out at +60fps.
