My son loves this vacuum! (18 months) He loves to help clean, and his favorite is the vacuum, but it's too big for him. This one looks real enough that he'll use it instead of the big one. There's two buttons on it. The red button in the front turns on the little colored balls in the canister and makes a mild noise that isn't scary. This button does not work the suction and while using this mode, it won't pick anything up. The on-off switch on the back turns on the suction. It's much louder and you can tell that it's supposed to work on this setting. It can be starling for kids-my son was a little scared at first and he loves noises like that. It actually works on this mode. After only a minute of vacuuming, it picked up a decent amount of animal hair and crumbs. It also isn't bad on batteries. My son got this for Christmas, uses it several times every day, and tends to let it run even when he's done using it. Still haven't had to change the batteries after a month and a half (on the red button mode). The only problem we have had is that the screw holding the battery cover in place stripped the first time I put batteries in. A bit of tape has been strong enough to hold it on. Would recommend for any little one who loves to vacuum!
