I've given these a pretty thorough test drive, and here's my assessment and some tips for their use. The set of regular colors is best for a white board. The set labeled `brights' are better for dark surfaces upon which the white and light colors will show up much better. These are indeed dry-erase crayons. The microfiber mitt that comes with each package does a good job of erasing off of a dry-erase surface. That being said, I find that using the mitt at the front of a classroom involves a LOT of scrubbing with the mitt or other microfiber cloth. These are also damp-erase, and are MUCH easier to clean off a large board with a pretty damp microfiber cloth. I use the cloths that either Costco or WalMart sell for auto-detailing. Find them in the auto departments. Any rag ought to do. I've only tested the auto detailing cloths. Where dry-erase markers refuse to write on a damp surfaces, the crayons don't mind so much. They won't work so well on a wet surface, but if you've just used a damp cloth to rub your markings off then you can write immediately with your dry-erase crayon. These are crayons! They are waxy like crayons, they lay down color like crayons. If you hold them in your hand they'll get a bit soft and make bold marks more easily. Don't leave them in a warm vehicle! They are completely washable. You can take your microfiber cloth to a sink, suds it up a bit with any variety of soap, and wash much of the crayon out of it. Laundering gets the rest. I wash my eraser cloths with my whites and a bit of bleach. A sink washing makes your cloth reusable if you've done a lot of erasing with it. If you hold the crayons in your hand then you may find crayon on your hand. Just wash your hands with soap and water. The crayon comes out of your clothes in the laundry. Do wash your eraser cloths. A cloth that's been used and reused for a few days tends to smell like an old dishrag. These are environmentally friendly. There's no empty marker tube to throw into a landfill somewhere. These leave no dust. It's all gathered into the eraser cloth. These have less odor than the low-odor dry-erase markers. You ALWAYS know how much `ink' you have left in your crayon. Only ONE suggestion for Crayola. We used to be able to get a tube to hold chalk that would advance the chalk with a slider on the side of the tube. Please make these for the crayons. I find that a crayon warmed by my hand breaks easily. A tube would prevent the crayon from breaking and my hand from collecting crayon wax. Nice work, Crayola! This is a simple, beautiful invention for education. I LOVE these!
