Works again after a little Cleaning!!
My grand-daughter loved this bath toy. It gave her much pleasure for almost a year. But then, as others have noted, it stopped working. My husband replaced the dead batteries, but it still didn't work. He was about to buy a new one, when he started reading these reviews. Here are his words:
Unlike some reviews, I noted that our battery compartment was in pretty good shape - no corrosion. But I was especially impressed with the review by "Auntie (Montana)", who recommended taking the cover off the inlet and "un-seizing the motor" with a screwdriver.
I removed the 4 screws on the light blue "underwater" component. Inside was a small white plastic "screen" which was moderately plugged with hair and other junk. I washed all the stuff off the screen. Then I noticed that the small hole where water is sucked into the pump blades was completely plugged with a big wad of hair and junk. I removed that.
The motor still didn't run, but it was quite warm to the touch, meaning that current was flowing into the motor, but was just generating heat because it had seized up. I turned the pump blades a couple of times with a small screwdriver, and surprise - it started running again. It seemed to seize up a couple of times while I was testing it. But after a couple more turns with the screwdriver it got back to normal and now runs every time when the orange button is pressed.
Be careful when replacing the blue cover, as the white screen only goes in one way. I hope this information finds its way to those who have had trouble. Perhaps a little cleaning will restore your toy to working order as it has for ours.
Now that I have read a few more reviews, I see that others have discovered this same technique. Well, I will just add my two cents to the discussion.
