Exceeded expectations
I live in a subdivision and am surrounded by tall trees. Most antenna MFG's talk about the range of their product. That was not my issue. I needed one that received UHF and VHF signals, within a 25 mile range. I installed the Channelmaster 4228 HD in our attic and it works amazingly well. The HD picture quality for ABC, NBC, CBS, plus the local favorites is actually BETTER than the picture my cable provider was able to produce. We get 31 channels total, of which quite a few seem to be duplicates. Now that the work is done, I would like to pass on what I have learned to help others who might be thinking about installing this antenna in a similar way: - I bought the DataShark 70018 Cable TV "F" Compression Bundle. The crimper can handle RG6 and RG59 compression connectors. However, it only comes with RG6 connectors. Thus, if you only have RG59 cable to work with, buy the Compression Coax F Connectors RG59 from Valley. Works great! - The antenna is pretty light. You can take the wing nuts out to detach the bow-ties from the main piece in order to get it through your access hatch into your attic in case things get tight. You will need 32" (diagonally) to get it through the hatch. - The antenna comes with two U-bolts plus hardware to mount it to a mast. I used a 4' piece of bamboo as a mast. Make sure your mast diameter does not exceed 1 1/2". - I used Channel Master 3079 Antenna Mount Kit to mount the mast to a 2x4 that I fastened between two rafters. The hardware that comes with the mount kit is pretty soft. Thus, use a drill bit that fits well and dial the torque setting of your drill down to avoid stripping the screws. - I uploaded two pictures to support what I attempted to describe above. Final thoughts: This was a very rewarding project. The results are amazing and the cost for all parts is covered in less than two months by no longer having a monthly cable bill. The kids get their Dora&Diego through Netflix, my wife uses HuluPlus to catch up on her shows, and I can continue watching the daily news like I used to at a fraction of the monthly cost.
