I removed the plug/controller from one of the strings, then connected the 2 strings end to end, leaving only about a foot of unlit wire between the strings. If using outside, you'll want to wrap some electrical tape around the connection to keep it water resistant, or play with the cap (put a hole in it) so you can screw it back down. If you try this, it's at your own risk -- I'm not an electrician -- but it seems fine to me. All lights worked straight out of the box.
