Mi-Fold Comfort vs. Mi-Fold Sport
A couple of months ago when my youngest child graduated from a convertible car seat to a booster seat I had to do a bit of car seat shuffling in my van and needed to find a smaller profile booster for my nine year old so that she could use the narrow seat in my Honda Odyssey that was previously occupied by a convertible Diono so I could still sit three children (now all in booster seats) across the second row of my minivan. This car seat game had me trying a variety of booster seats, both full size and compact travel size to see what gave us the best fit and most comfort for my daughter. Ultimately we settled on a Graco RightGuide seat belt trainer for her, but we did find that having a Mi-Fold seat on hand for our second and third cars as well as for travel, would be good to have on hand. This brings me to this review of the new Mi-Fold Comfort and my comparison of it to the older Mi-Fold Sport Luxury booster. I want to start off by saying that I've never actually used the original Mi-Fold booster because I read so many reviews about how it wasn't comfortable and how it would shift and try to fold while the child was using it. I did however, order a Mi-fold One non folding booster and sent it back because the cushioning was non-existent on the seat and it would stay in place on the leather seats with my 52lb child sitting on it when we tested it out to see if it would work for us. The Mi-Fold Sport is one of the seats that we felt was worth keeping when we initially ordered several different boosters. It has ample cushioning, the bottom of the seat has good rubber gripping on it to keep it in place, and it is nice quality. My only real complaint about the seat is the shoulder strap. It is very difficult to adjust the length because of how thick the webbing is on the strap. The clip that goes around the seat belt strap is also a bit difficult to open. I like that the Sport comes with a drawstring carrying case so we can store the seat in that when its not in use. The Mi-Fold Comfort is very similar to the Sport version with several notable differences. The first one I noticed was the height and weight range for the seat is different. The Comfort is for children between 33 and 100 lbs and 36 and 59 inches. The Sport is for 40 to 100 lbs and 40 to 57 inches tall. I find that surprising since these seats are identical in dimensions. Not sure what makes the Comfort suitable for a smaller child where the Sport has a higher minimum height and weight. The Comfort has a six small grippy triangles on the bottom to help keep the seat from slipping on the seat under your child. While the seat does stay in place while driving, I feel like the Sport has a better non-slip bottom since it is a larger non slip area. The material on the Comfort seat feels like a polyester performance jersey. I do not care for the texture of the seat fabric. I prefer the faux leather material on the Sport model to this one. The should strap guide on the Comfort is much nicer than the one on the Sport. The material for this webbing is smooth and adjusts easily. The clip on this seat for the car seat shoulder belt is easier to use. It has an opening where you simply feed the belt into the guide and you're good to go. This design will make using this seat in an Uber or swapping from car to car an easier transition. I also like that the instructions for how to properly fit this booster to a child are printed on the webbing for the seat. On the sport model those instructions are found only in the manual booklet. The pocket for storing the manual booklet is a tight fit on the Comfort model that makes it difficult to put the manual in the pocket without messing it up. It is easier to slip the manual into the storage pocket on the Sport model. The bottom of the Comfort is entirely plastic, so it's a lightweight seat compared to the Sport that has an aluminum bottom on one half and is heavier by comparison. My nine year old found the comfort to be comfortable. She didn't like the Sport model seat when we first got it. My six year old son feels that the seat on the Sport feels nicer than the Comfort but thinks they're both good. At the time I'm writing this review the price difference between the Comfort and the Sport models are the same. Some times the Sport is about three dollars more. Given the choice between the two seat, I'd have to say that I prefer the Sport to the Comfort because the materials are nicer. So if you have a child who fits in the 40lbs and 40 inches category, the sport might be your better option. If you have a smaller child, or if you want the most lightweight of the two for travel purposes, the Comfort is a good choice. I like that the Comfort could be used by my four year old who is smaller than the height and weight requirements of the Sport model. A word of caution about the Sport model, the one I purchased from Amazon two months ago was made over two years ago, so that seat arrived brand new with more than two years of it's useable life already gone. The Comfort was just released in 2020 and has a manufacturing date from 2020 so you would have more of a useable life from the Comfort than you might get from the Sport. Something to keep in mind if you have several kids and are hoping to get as much longevity out of the seat as you can.
