Let's clear up the misconceptions...
1) This is whey concentrate. After whey is drained off during milk-to-cheese processing, it undergoes ultrafiltration process to become whey concentrate. Supplement companies typically use WPC-80 (80% protein). Whey isolate is the result of taking whey concentrate through additional filtration process to take out more fat/lactose resulting in ~90% protein content. Whey isolates have higher content of protein per gram, but it is not necessarily superior. The additional processing involved in making an isolate may strip away additional health promoting subfractions of whey (especially when that process uses ion exchange chromotography, which involve acids). Whey concentrates are generally the better choice for people who don't mind the extra gram or two of fat/lactose. And it costs less than whey isolates.
2) Regarding UNFLAVORED: This does not mean it is tasteless. It simply refers that no flavors or sweeteners were added. Whey has a mild milky taste but if you mix it in plain water, it is not pleasant.
3) Jarrow Whey is USA sourced and comes from cows not treated with growth hormone. Other whey protein products may come from standard cows not monitored for hormones, or foreign countries like New Zealand or China unless noted otherwise.
4) Jarrow Whey contains small amount of soy lecithin (emulsifier) usually less than 1%. Soy lecithin is often added during spray drying process so the powders do not clump together and to make it mix better in liquids. This is a common practice. Other products may add additional emulsifiers such as Xanthan Gum or Guar Gum.
5) Lo Han Guo (also goes by the name of monk fruit) used in the flavored Jarrow Whey is a natural sweetener (derived from fruit grown in China). I believe the reason why Jarrow chose this over the common Stevia is because Lo Han Guo has been used for centuries in China as a natural sweetener and for medicinal/health purposes. And because this product is naturally flavored, it is not going to taste as good as products that are artificially flavored. So deal with it.
