Great CB Radio for the Non-Trucker
Before I purchased this hand-held radio, I read all the negative reviews about it. Most of them simply claimed that there was no reception, and the Hand-Held was just a toy. I watched one YouTube video where a woman unboxed her radio in her car while her husband was driving the car down the road. She verified the contents of the box and put together the radio, with the little whip antenna, while still in the front seat of her car moving down the road. She listened to the radio for several minutes without hearing anything, then pressed the transmit button and called out for a radio check. Silence. After another 5 minutes of this, she concluded that the radio didn't work and shut it off, claiming that she was going to repack and return the radio. She was trying to transmit a signal from inside a closed car. There is apparently a great misunderstandings of how radios work, and how important the antenna system is to a radio.
When I got my Midland 75-822, I also bought the recommended Midland-18-2442 Center Load Mag Mount Mobile CB Radio Antenna. The two work perfectly together, and when properly located and connected, this hand-held radio sends and receives clear signals within a 5-mile distance. It is easy to use, very clear, and perfect for a car driver crossing the country on the interstates. Just remember that there are times when no one around you is transmitting on your channel. At $100, it is the best value on the market.
