Nesco Smart Canner
I have a stove top canner but I also have a ceramic stovetop...not the best combination. Also, the stove top canner is much larger than I need, so I saw Nesco had this electric canner (originally it was known as Carey, but I read that Nesco had purchased it) so, being familiar with Nesco, I chose that one. I have canned five pints of stew and five pints of pinto beans with no problem. In both batches one can didn’t seal, but that just meant I had stew and beans in the refrigerator ready to eat. I haven’t tried pressure cooking or any of the other functions but canning is a breeze. I had intended to use it for dog food but because of the rice I will have to rethink how to do it. I don’t expect much trouble from that, even having to leave out rice. I don’t like that it hasn’t been approved by “official” entities but I looked in to lawsuits against Nesco or Carey for botulism illnesses or deaths and found none, so until someone dies I’ll be using this canner. If I die, I’ll let you know.
