A superhero for the ages
I've seen it twice in the theaters, and pre-ordered it. I'm gonna want to watch this many times in the next few years. It's a beautiful, thrilling movie, and you can't usually say that about superhero movies. They can be thrilling, but aren't typically beautiful as well -- the first Thor movie may be another one. One misconception about Wonder Woman is that the movie is "sexy." It turns out that it isn't really. Sure, Gal Gadot is beautiful, and the script has some fun with the idea that men and women might find her attractive, but the primary impression you get of Wonder Woman is of ferocity, not sexiness. The image that really sticks with you at the end is the fierce expression on her face in a few of the action scenes. The opening scenes with Connie Nielsen and Robin Wright on the island of Themyscira are also wonderful. This is very much a tale of self-discovery, and Patty Jenkins presents the beginnings of this voyage really well. The trailers everyone's already seen hint at how cool these scenes are, but they're even cooler than you expect. Be prepared to be stunned and charmed. The script takes some liberties with Greek mythology, and these are really fun and clever, but also even a little bit profound. There's much to think about here as you're watching the rest of the movie.
