This is my first robot vac and I'm quite happy with it.
*Update* it's now a couple of months since I got the I7. Robot's still cleaning great, iRobot has improved the app and it's now faster and less clunky, but there's still room for improvement. I've done some mantiance now like cleaning out the rollers of pet hair(the app has a section for when mantiance is due on the robot based on usage) and I have to say it's an awesome design. Any hair caught on the rollers rolls to the sides and all you have to do is pop the roller out and pull it off the side. Then you pop the roller back in. So much better than cleaning hair off brushes like you have to on a regular vac or other robot vacs. I love the rubber rollers. I went ahead an upgraded to the i7+ with the automated robot dustbin emptying and it works great. Haven't had to empty the bag yet in a month's worth of robot cleaning. I highly recommend as it makes the robot hands free 99% of the time. I did have the robot crash(stop moving or responding to commands) after a recent software update. I had to had to hard reset the robot a couple of times the day of the automatic update(hold some buttons down on the robot for 15 seconds and wait a minute while it rebooted) but after that it went back to normal. Original review: This is the first robot vac that's not a toy. Once it mapped my entire house with a couple of training runs(took 5 hours). I was able to setup dividers for rooms in the app. Now I can say Hey Google, Vacuum the living room and the i7 gets to work on that room alone. Its awesome. It's the closest we've gotten to having rosie the robot. The house us much cleaner with it running on a schedule and the pet hair we used to find around is gone. Suction is quit good on carpet and wood floors, robot's only gotten stuck a few times and it learns from getting stuck since it doesn't seem to repeat. It's relatively quiet compared to a regular vac. Vacuums under a lot of stuff a regular vac can't reach without moving stuff. Downsides: The robot needs the lights on to properly find which room it's working on if you don't have a lot of natural lighting. It doesn't use ladar so you really can't tell it with fine control which areas to avoid like dogs water bowls, vents, etc. Instead you need to use little virtual wall devices irobot sells to keep it away from such areas(1 is included with the robot). The app is a bit slow and clunky. The robot has trouble going up some pile carpet area rugs. Sometimes it does fine on them and sometimes it has trouble climbing up them. It may be a factor with how dark the rug is, since it may trigger the don't fall off the edge sensors on darker carpet.
