No, not a "Girls" like show - much better and sharper.
Funny, sad, and like a lot of biting humor - the funny bits are actually the sad bits as well.
Many years ago, a critic (forgotten who) noted that the American TV comedy Cheers was the first really successful show where none of the characters were fundamentally likable - all were very flawed, some pretty badly. Fleabag is a very modern comedy - it finds laughs in the awkward silent moments of discomfort between strangers, families and friends. Manners, politeness and all the other parts that fit as the veneer of life allow ways to fill in those moments and to carry on. The creator and star clearly understands this. There is a a strong modern feminist theme (what it means to be a modern educated sort of well off woman in London, well may not well off, but not poor, or at least not on the dole) but really that is just a part of the tale. All of the little bits (no spoilers but there seems to be a throw away gag when our lead character goes jogging in a cemetery) but later one realizes that it fits into the whole story. It is really a story of mistake and regret. A great work.
For the optimists the ending is a hopeful one - that perhaps people can learn to forgive others and themselves and move on. I suspect this was added on to leave the door ajar for a sequel.
