So far so good
I live in Colorado along the front range foothills. I currently have the 4 amp hour battery. This product review will be based on snow storms and how it performs with each. I'll update as time goes on. My driveway is almost the size of a 3 car driveway, pretty big, about 40 feet by 24 feet. My concerns going in are 1) the ability to clear heavy snow without getting bogged down, 2) the ability to clear to the concrete and how the unit's weight (about 30 lbs) will affect its ability to clear the snow, and 3) how long the battery will last with having to power the motor, the light and the snow chute. Recommendations: Use a bungee cord around the battery compartment since it doesn't lock shut and could open while in use. Way better than shoveling. 12/7/16: 4 inches of snow, cold fluffy - Fully charged battery finished the driveway in 20 minutes, cleared to the concrete, with one power level (out of three) remaining on the battery's charge. - Snow shot about 10 feet away, sometimes less sometimes more - Did this job as expected 12/17/16: 4-6 inches of snow, cold fluffy below 0 - Same as previous job. However some deeper drifts of maybe 8 inches it did struggle with. The battery power just isn't enough current to power through it, had to pull it back and forth into the drifts to shoot the snow far. I've heard of more expensive gas snowblowers bogging down in similar situations as well. It'll be interesting to see how it does in consistently deeper snow. I'll probably try to clear the driveway before snow can get that deep and if possible, get the job done when snow is about 4 inches deep. 1/4/17: 3 inches of snow - Charge on battery at start was 2 out of 3 indicator lights. - Almost finished driveway but battery didn't have enough current to power the snow blower anymore, only the light. One battery indicator light was still on too. Will take some getting used to the power levels as the indicator lights don't provide enough detail to the remaining charge. 1/5/17: 7-10 inches of snow, single digit temps - Fully charged. - Very impressed, finished my entire driveway. Actually seemed to do a better job, shooting snow further, in this depth compared to 4 inches. - It struggled on the deeper snow drifts of 10+ inches as expected but was easy to take the top off and go back through the bottom. - Now that I know it can handle this depth well enough I may look at purchasing the 5 AH battery for more power and have my 4 AH battery as backup. End of 2020: I still have this. I'm sure most of you have moved on but I'm nostalgic. I mentioned above that this has trouble in certain conditions, and it still does, laughably. After it clogs I no longer bother clearing it, I just keep pushing snow with it. Still better as a shovel than a shovel if you have room. Anyways, I think it actually shoots snow farther when its clogged. I'm sure my neighbors look at me through the windows wondering wtf I'm using.
