Decent “in-between” vac, not for deep cleaning
This is a nice vacuum to keep around for quick touch-ups between your regular vacuuming or for cleaning up small messes (pet hair, spilled cereal, dry pet food, ice melt salt tracked in, etc.). It doesn’t really have the runtime or suction to be used as a primary vacuum so this will likely need to be in addition to whatever your main vacuum is. Let’s take a closer look. IN THE BOX In the box you’ll find the main motor unit with attached dust bin, an extension tube for when you’re using the vacuum on the floors, a motor head with rolling brush, a brush tool, a telescoping crevice tool, the battery, the battery charger/accessory holder, the power supply, and an instruction booklet. DESIGN The vacuum features a pretty standard design that looks very similar to Dyson’s stick vac designs. There’s a motorized brush head that snaps into the long tube, the tube that snaps into the main motor unit, the motor unit itself with a cylindrical design and the clear dust bin in front, and a trigger-grip handle with the battery slotted in below. The vacuum features a copper colored accent ring around the top and a copper colored tube. It looks quite nice and won’t feel like an eyesore even if you hang it up in a conspicuous area of your home. The handle has control buttons on the rear panel so you can operate them with your thumb. There is an on/off button and buttons for power up and power down. The on/off button is nice as it lets you simply turn the vacuum on and go, without the need to hold down a trigger like some other brands require. The dust bin releases with the push of a button. Once released you can easily remove the washable filter from the top. Give the top of the dust bin a quick turn and the core of the bin pulls out so you can then empty the bin. The battery slides into the bottom of the vacuum and features a set of 3 LED lights on each side to show the charge state. The motor head, brush tool, crevice tool, and tube can all be clicked into the main motor unit directly. This allows you to forego using the long tube if you want to get up close and personal with that cat hair on your couch or the crumbs under the seat in your car. The brush head has a quick release for the roller. Simply slide the switch and the roller pops out for cleaning. The charging base is designed to be wall mounted and basic mounting hardware is included. Once mounted, the base can hold 2 tools and allows you to hang the vacuum in a convenient spot for charging. The included power adapter plugs into the charging base, but sadly can’t be plugged directly into the battery or the vacuum for charging. So even if you don’t want to wall mount the base you’ll still need to use it in order to charge the vacuum. The charging base does have the ability to charge just the battery separately though, so if you add a second battery you can have it charging while the vacuum is in use elsewhere. Unfortunately the charging base can’t accommodate both the vacuum with battery and a separate battery at the same time. So if you do need a second battery you’ll have to manually switch between charging each one rather than just hanging up the vacuum and the extra battery and calling it a day. SETUP If you plan to wall mount the charging base then you can go ahead and do that, or you can just charge things up with the base sitting on the ground. To get going with the vacuum you’ll first want to charge up the battery. Charging the battery from completely drained to full took 2.5 hours in my testing. Once you’re charged up snap the battery into the main unit, attach the long pipe if needed, and then attach the motorized brush head or one of the other accessories to the end. IN USE Using the vacuum is pretty much as you’d expect if you’ve ever used a vacuum before. Push the power button on the back and then use the plus and minus buttons to adjust the power. There are 3 levels of suction power to choose from depending on how deeply you need to clean things. The lower speed is probably fine for hard floors and to clean things off the surface of carpet. For deeper cleaning in carpet you’ll want to use the higher power modes. The unit rolls easily over hard floors with the pipe and motorized brush head installed. Light carpet is also fairly easy although you will definitely feel more resistance when pushing the vacuum. Thick carpet is very difficult to vacuum and you’ll find yourself really putting a lot of effort into pushing the vacuum back and forth. This is pretty standard for stick vacs though. PERFORMANCE In my testing the vacuum would run for about 6.5 minutes at the highest power setting before depleting the battery. Switch to the lowest setting and you get a more respectable 40.5 minutes out of it. Both of those times are with the motorized brush head attached, so you’ll likely be able to get more time if you aren’t using the brush head. For deep cleaning a couple of rooms and a hallway you can probably get by with the highest setting if you have a plan and get in there and get it done. For light cleanup around your whole home you’ll probably want to just leave it at the low or medium setting. Suction power was acceptable for a battery powered stick vac, but definitely not on par with some of the more expensive offerings from other companies. I did a completely unscientific test and vacuumed using the Samsung at full power until it shut off. I then used a Dyson V11 Torque stick vac and went over the exact same areas with the Dyson set to auto mode. Even after vacuuming with the Samsung the Dyson picked up even more dirt (see my comparison picture). This was a little expected though as the Dyson is significantly more expensive. SUMMARY This is a decent stick vac for light duty around the house and in your car. You’ll still need a regular vacuum for your normal cleaning though, so this likely only makes sense if you find yourself dreading to get your regular vacuum out just for small clean up jobs. This price range has some strong competition though so make sure you take a look at the offerings from the brands as well as you may find that they offer better suction or longer runtimes for around the same price.
